Nova Scotia News
The Nova Scotia Racquetball site has added a BraveNet Fourm to its web site (scroll to the bottom of the main page to access). "We are hoping this will be a useful tool for general questions and tournament updates," said webmaster Paul Keeping. "Some top players might even drop by to answer any questions you might have or you may have some answers to racquetball players travelling the Atlantic Canada shores." http://members.fortunecity.com/novascotia/racquetball.html

Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) Meeting
Executive Director Jan Coates and Director of Coaching Ron Brown met with representatives of the COC in September, to address questions about the upcoming Pan Am Games. The COC has reduced the team sizes for all sports, and in the case of racquetball it means that we will have one less staff position to send to the Games. Therefore Racquetball Canada will send 8 athletes and 2 coaches, and will not have a Team Leader attend the Games in Santo Domingo.

Canada Winter Games Meeting
Jan and Ron also met with officials from the Canada Games, to gather information about racquetball getting back into the Games. The earliest possible year is 2011, but the Games people are aware of the many racquetball initiatives across the country in building and growing a solid junior program.

Ottawa Racquetball
A third meeting that Jan and Ron had in Ottawa was with top player Gary Shaw, who is taking an interest in further-developing the sport in the nation's capital. Gary will work with Racquetball Ontario to develop some programming there. As well, Racquetball Canada's VP of Development, Terry Nelson, reports that he has made contact with a school district in the Ottawa area which is interested in starting a racquetball program for the students. Terry will be working with that group to provide as much assistance as possible.

"Operation Kickstart" Hits the Maritimes
As part of a plan to help racquetball continue to grow in the Atlantic provinces, Ron Brown and Jan Coates have taken Racquetball Canada's "Operation Kick Start" to St John's, NF (September 27-29), Charlottetown, PEI (September 30-October 1), St John, NB (October 2-3) and Halifax, NS (October 4-6). The aim of the program is to work with each provincial racquetball community to develop a dynamic 5-year plan for racquetball growth and development.

Strategic Planning
As a follow-up to the Board of Directors conference call of September 24, Executive Director Jan Coates will work on a 10-year plan for Racquetball Canada, taking into account the priorities and recommendations made by the Strategic Planning Group. The Racquetball Canada community should have something to review in the new year.

National Team Singles Selection Event
This event will be held March 7-9, 2003, in St. Catherine's, Ontario, in conjunction with the annual Niagara Falls YMCA tournament. Watch the Racquetball Canada web site for further information, or contact Adrian Webb at Awebb98@aol.com

Referees Required
Level 3 Referees are required for 2003 for the position of Chief Referee for four events: the Singles Selection Event (St Catherines), the Doubles Selection event (Saskatoon), the Junior National Championships (Saskatoon) and the National Championships (Vancouver). If you are presently a Level 3 referee and wish to apply for any of the above positions, please submit your application immediately to Randy Pentland, care of the National Office, or by email at penfish@shaw.ca . Qualified individuals will be selected by the Officiating Committee which consists of Randy Pentland as Chairperson, Michel Gagnon, Valari Hendrickson, Usher Barnoff and Cal Smith.

BC's OnLine Auction
In order to raise funds for junior racquetball, BC Racquetball is having an OnLine Auction in November. Sport BC is coordinating the auction and several sport organizations will be offering items for bid. You can check it out on-line at http://www.gobid.ca
