Racquetball Canada Magazine

The Racquetball Canada magazine was distributed in mid-December. We have received good feedback from it, and we are happy to hear any and all responses to it. Furthermore, if you have any suggestions for the magazine please pass them on to the editor : Evan Pritchard.

The deadline for content submissions for the next magazine is February 11. Thus, the next magazine will appear during or before National Racquetball Week, which is March 13-21.

Elite Players

The first National Team selection event occurs this month with the doubles selection event in Saskatoon. There are several teams in both the mens and womens competition that could win the event, so the event should feature some fine matches. Look for coverage to appear on the RC website during the event.

The professional tours began play again this month. At the Cleveland IRT event, Kane Waselenchuk lost his game in the round of 16 by injury default to Mitch Williams. This injury will prevent Waselenchuk from participating in Saskatoon at the doubles selection event. But word is that he will be in Victoria next month for the singles selection event.

Also in Cleveland, Mike Green won his round of 16 match over Mike Guidry, 3 games to 1. Green then faced Williams, and defeated him 3-0. That put Green in the semi finals against Cliff Swain. That match went 5 games, but Green was on the losing end. In the final, Swain lost to Jack Huczek, 3-2.

In the Syosset, New York, IRT event, Green faced Alvaro Beltran in the round of 16, and lost 3-0. Jason Mannino defeated Huczek in the final.

The LPRA event in Hawaii had a large draw of 28 women, including 3 Canadians: Lori Jane Powell, Christie Van Hees, and Julie Neubauer. Powell and Van Hees both won their first round matches, over Stephanie Christensen and Sue Leafa, respectively, and then they had to play each other. Van Hees won that match, 3-0, which put her in the quarter finals against Cheryl Gudinas, who she beat at the US Open in 5 games.

This match also went 5 games, but Gudinas was the winner. Gudinas was to play Kristen Walsh in one semi with the winner facing the winner of Rhonda Rajsich and Jackie Rice in the final.

Neubauer lost her round of 32 match against Rosy Torres, 3-1.

Full results of the men's and women's pro tours can be found at their respective websites:
