Junior Nationals

The Canadian Junior National Championships wrapped up May 1 in Charlottetown, PEI. One hundred and thirty six players from all 10 provinces competed in what was the 20th Junior National Championships.

Eric Desrochers (Ancaster, ON) and Brandi Jacobson Prentice (Saskatoon) are both National Champions for a second consecutive year in boys and girls under 18 singles.

The press releases from the tournament are on the website, and the full results will follow soon.

Congratulations to all the winners!

The 2005 Junior Nationals will be in Winnipeg.

Pan-American Championships

Team Canada had great results at the Pan American Championships in Ecuador. The team won gold in the women's and men's team events, as well as the combined title. This is the first time that Team Canada has swept these events.

Individually, Brian Istace took gold in men's singles by defeating fellow Canadian Corey Osborne in the final. In women's singles, Lori Jane Powell won gold by defeating Mexican Lupita Torres in the final, while Amanda Dunn lost in the quarter finals to American Kersten Hallander.

The women's doubles pairing of Josée Grand'Maître and Jennifer Saunders earned silver medals, after being defeated in the final by the Mexican team of Susy Acosta and Rosy Torres. The men's doubles team of Tom O'Brien and François Viens took home bronze medals, as they lost in the semi-finals to Americans Shane Vanderson and Mike Dennison.

Congratulations to all the Team Canada members!

Pro Tours

Kane Waselenchuk had an excellent April, winning three IRT tournaments in a row at Boston, Las Vegas and Dallas. The win in Dallas made him the number 1 player in the world.

Mike Green reached his goal of finishing in the top 8 players at the end of the year, with especially good results in Las Vegas at Pro Nationals. There he reached the semi finals by beating Sudsy Monchik and Jack Huczek, before losing to Alvaro Beltran.

Christie Van Hees won the last LPRA tournament of the season, and her second straight. She beat Rhonda Rajsich in the final of Pro Nationals in Tempe, Arizona, which was probably some revenge for her loss to Rajsich in last year's US Open. To get to the final, Van Hees defeated Diane Moore in the round of 16, Kristen Walsh in the quarter finals, and Tammy Brown in the semi finals.

Congratulations to Waselenchuk, Van Hees and Green on their excellent April performances!
