World Championships RecapThe Canadian national racquetball team came home from South Korea with silver medals in the team competitions, and individual bronze medals for Amanda Dunn, Brian Istace, and the doubles teams of Josée Grand'Maître and Jennifer Saunders and Mike Green and Tom O'Brien. Pro ToursFor the third year, Kane Waselenchuk won the IRT tournament in New Orleans, the first men's pro tournament of the season. Waselenchuk defeated Jack Huczek in the final, 11-3, 10-12, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9. Waselenchuk got to the final by beating Rocky Carson in the semi-final (6, 1, 3), and Shane Vanderson in the quarter-finals ((8), 6, 4, 1), and Ruben Gonzalez (8, 3, 3) in the round of 16. Fellow Canadian Mike Green lost in the round of 16 to Vanderson, 11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7. The LPRA's first tournament will be September 10-12 in Rosarito Beach, Mexico. The complete Canadian tournament schedule for this season will be on the website soon. Rule changesThere have been some rule changes effective September 1, 2004. These are described on the rules page of the website. Perhaps the most significant one for tournament players is that time outs are now 60 seconds, as people were taking about 60 seconds per time out anyway. Note, this does not mean you should be taking 2 or 3 minutes for a time out now. 60 seconds means 60 seconds. No more. New Information on SiteNew information on past Nationals, Junior Nationals as well as World Championships, Pan American Championships has been added to the website recently. Also, there have been some information added regarding past Racquetball Canada award winners. Please click around the site to look at what's there. AdministriviaAll Racquetball Canada committees now have chairs. Lori Kirk has agreed to be chair of the Racquetball Canada ranking committee. Cal Smith will be head of the officiating committee, and Carol Jacobson is tournament committee chair. However there is one departure, as Brian Valin has resigned as athlete representative on the board. Please keep your contact information updated, including email addresses. Doing so saves RC money, which means it saves you money.
