April 2005
Pan American ChampionshipsThe Pan American Championships ran March 19 to 27. The men's team finished 3rd, the women's team 5th, for a 3rd place finish overall. Individual event medals were won by Mike Green & Brian Istace, who silvered in doubles, and Corey Osborne, who took bronze in singles. Results are on the website. Canada had three officials at the Championships: Linda Ellerington, Tim Landeryou, & Cal Smith. It was the first international tournament experience for Ellerington and Landeryou, and they performed well, refereeing many matches. In the process, Ellerington earned her level 3 officiating certification. Junior NationalsApril 1 was the deadline for entering Junior Nationals, so if you are not entered now, then it's likely too late. Racquetball Manitoba, the host organization has a web site for Junior Nationals at www.racquetballjuniornationals.ca. We're looking forward to seeing all the junior players in Winnipeg, having a great time, and playing some good racquetball. NationalsThe entry form for Nationals is now on the web site. Please note that a couple of categories have been added since it was first put on the site. Specifically, men's 55+ doubles and 65+ doubles. Pro ToursChristie Van Hees, the number 1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Association (LPRA) tour, won one and lost one in March. She lost in the quarter finals of the Miami tournament to veteran player Angela Grisar of Chile, who went on to the finals where she lost to Rhonda Rajsich. However, Van Hees bounced back by winning the Nashville tournament, defeating Rajsich in the final. The LPRA season winds up in May with their Pro Nationals in Atlanta. There weren't any main stops on the International Racquetball Tour in March, but there are four in April. Go figure. Hopefully, Kane Waselenchuk, who's remains number 1 IRT player, can roll through them as he has the other tournaments this season. Also, Willie Tilton has taken over handling the IRT web site. Tilton also runs the meetandplay.com racquetball site. He's already made improvements to the IRT site, and we look forward to more. Full results of the men's and women's pro tours can be found at their respective websites: Saskatchewan Racquetball AuctionThe Saskatchewan Racquetball Association will be conducting an online auction through their web site starting on April 3rd, 2005 @ 12:00am and ending on April 10th, 2005 @ 12:00am.
