Pan American Championships

Team Canada is currently playing in the 2006 Pan American Championships in Guatemala, April 7-15. The results are on the website.

Junior Nationals

Junior Nationals will begin on Monday April 24 with the opening ceremonies at the Cedar Springs Club in Burlington, Ontario. Results will be available on the website, so look for them there.

Nationals

The entry form for Nationals is now available on the website, and it was included with the magazine mailing to all Racquetball Canada members. The entry deadline is May 1, so be sure to have your completed entry form and payment to the National Office in Winnipeg by that date.

Pro Tours

Kane Waselenchuk of Edmonton and American Jack Huczek have met in the finals of the last two International Racquetball Tour (IRT) stops in Boston and Virginia. Unfortunately for Waselenchuk, Huczek won both times.

There is one IRT tour stop remaining. The Motorola Pro Nationals will begin on April 27 in Chicago.

Three Canadians competed in the Miami stop on the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization (WPRO) tournament. Josée Grand'Maître defeated Vivian Gomez, 11-2, 11-2, 11-3 in the Round of 16, but in the quarter finals she lost to the top seed Rhonda Rajsich (USA) in five games, 9-11, 11-6, 2-11, 12-10, 11-3. Grand'Maître had a chance to win the match in game 4, but didn't finish it off. Nevertheless, it was a strong showing.

Lori-Jane Powell also reached the quarter finals by beating Kyoko Hirobayashi of Japan, 11-4, 11-2, 11-1. But she lost to Angela Grisar of Chile, 11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8 in the quarters. Rajsich defeated Grisar in the final, 11-7, 11-3, 7-11, 11-7.

Véronique Guillemette lost to Brenda Kyzer in the Round of 16, 11-1, 11-7, 11-13, 11-8.

Canadian Racquetball Magazine

The Canadian Racquetball magazine was mailed out this month, so all Racquetball Canda members should have received their copy in the mail. Also, it should appear at your club. Please let us know if you are seeing the magazine at your club or not. If you aren't seeing it at your club, let us know and we will send some out to your club.

Racquetball Canada Awards

We are seeking nominations for the 2006 Racquetball Canada Awards. Nominations for these awards should be submitted to the National Office, 12 Fulham Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3N-OG2. With each nomination, please explain why the person nominated is deserving of the award he or she is being nominated for.
