World Junior Championships

Congratulations to Christine Richardson, won gold in the 14 and under division at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Juarez, Mexico last month.

Congratulations to all the Canadian players who played in Junior Worlds!

National Team Selection Events

The first National Team Selection Event of the season is this weekend - January 6-8 - in Calgary at the Fish Creek Club. This event is a doubles competition.

The National Team Selection Event for singles will be at Rev's Bowling and Fitness Centre in Burnaby, British Columbia from February 3-5.

The Head Referee for the doubles event will be John Halko, and Scott Johansson for the singles event.

Look for results of the selection event on the website during the events.

Development Centres

Racquetball Canada has provided grants for Development Centres across Canada.  The successful applicants this years for full funding are:  

  • B.C. - Burnaby
  • Alberta - Edmonton
  • Saskatchewan - Regina
  • Ontario - Windsor
  • Quebec - Rock Forest
  • New Brunswick - Moncton
  • Nova Scotia - Halifax, Clare, Port Hawkesbury, Dartmouth  

    There was also two 1/2 centres awarded this year:  

  • B.C.- Prince George
  • Manitoba - Brandon  

    Development Centre grants are awarded on an annual basis. The basic criteria for funding is three fold: more than 6 juniors in the program, Level 2 certified coach and applying before the September 30th deadline.

    Rule Changes

    Cal Smith, head of the Racquetball Canada Officiating Committee, is soliciting submissions for rule change proposals. Please submit proposals for rule changes by February 15, 2006 to Cal Smith, or National Office, 12 Fulham Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3N-OG2.

    Pro Tours

    The International Racquetball Tour (IRT) starts up again this month with tournaments in Riverside, California (January 12-15) and Long Island, New York (January 19-22). The next stop on the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization (WPRO) tour will be in Denver, February 3-5.

    Canadian Racquetball Magazine

    The deadline for submissions for the next Canadian Racquetball magazine is January 31. Please submit all material, or suggestions for content, to The Editor.

    Racquetball Canada Awards

    It's not too soon to make a nomination for the National Office, 12 Fulham Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3N-OG2. With each nomination, please explain why the person nominated is deserving of the award he or she is being nominated for.

    The tournament schedule is heats up again after the holiday/year end break. It's a great time to get out and hit the ball around.

    Mike Green has resigned as Athlete's Representative on the Racquetball Canada Executive Board. We thank Mike for his time on the Executive Board and wish him well.
