Waselenchuk loses, but finishes season #1

Kane Waselenchuk of Edmonton, lost in the final of the Racquetball Players Championship at the Landmark Fitness Club in Dallas, Texas. American Jack Huczek, ranked number 2 on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), defeated Waselenchuk 11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 11-2.

Despite the loss Waselenchuk finishes the season as the number 1 racquetball player on the IRT - the men's professional tour. He won 8 of the 12 tournaments this season.

Waselenchuk's losses were in Stockton, California due to an injury in the semi-finals, and he didn't compete at the San Diego and Boston tournaments. Thus, the Players Championship final was the only match this season Waselenchuk lost that he finished.

Waselenchuk only lost one game in advancing to the final in Dallas, beating Hiroshi Shimizu of Japan 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 in the round of 16, Mexican Alvaro Beltran, 6-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 in the quarter finals, and American Shane Vanderson, 11-3, 11-9, 11-5 in the semi-finals.

Kane Waselenchuk d'Edmonton a perdu en finale du Championnat des joueurs de Racquetball au Club Landmark Fitness de Dallas, au Texas. L'Américain Jack Huczek, deuxième au classement de la Tournée internationale de Racquetball (IRT), a vaincu Waselenchuk (11-9, 11-6, 9-11 et 11-2).

Waselenchuk n'a pas gagné à Stockton, en Californie en raison d'une blessure en demi-finale. Il n'a pas pris part aux tournois de San Diego et de Boston. C'est donc la première fois que Waselenchuk perd un tournoi qu'il complète.

Malgré cette défaite, l'Albertain termine la saison au premier rang du classement mondial de l'IRT, le circuit professionnel masculin. Il a remporté huit des 12 tournois du calendrier 2004-2005.

Waselenchuk n'a perdu qu'un seul match en route vers la finale à Dallas. Il a d'abord balayé le Japonais Hiroshi Shimizu (11-1, 11-2 et 11-0) en huitièmes de finale, avant de vaincre le Mexicain Alvaro Beltran en quatre matchs (6-11, 11-4, 11-5 et 11-6) en quarts de finale. Il a ensuite blanchit l'Américain Shane Vanderson (11-3, 11-9 et 11-5) en demi-finale avant d'affronter Huczek.
