Racquetball Canada announces coaches for Junior World Championships

Racquetball Canada is pleased to announce the selection of Michel Gagnon of Longueuil, Que., Rino Langelier of Brossard, Que. and Ross Richardson of Regina, Sask. will be the coaches for the 2007 Junior World Racquetball Championships to be held in Cochabamba, Bolivia. It will be the first time the Junior World Championships are held in South America.

Gagnon will be the head coach with Langelier and Richardson serving as assistants. Gagnon has considerable coaching experience as he as served as the National Team coach dating back to 1999. Langelier also coached at Junior Worlds in 2005.

The 2007 Junior Worlds Team is comprised of 19 players who will compete in age categories 10 and under through 18 and under playing both singles and doubles.

    Team Canada finished third at last year's Junior World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona behind Mexico in first and the USA. This year's team will be looking to improve on that result.

    A positive note is that two of the three players who won double bronze medals (in singles and doubles) last year are returning this year. Christine Richardson and Barret Husulak will be looking to improve their places on the podium in Bolivia.

    The 2007 Junior World Racquetball Championships begin December 14 and run through December 20 in Cochabama, Bolivia. Previously, Cochabama hosted the 1998 World Championships and the Pan American Championships in 1993 and 2002.

Il s'agira de la première fois que les championnats du monde se dérouleront en Amérique du Sud.

    Gagnon sera l'entraîneur-chef avec Langelier et Richardson seront ses adjoints. Gagnon possède une très grande expérience comme entraîneur ayant joué ce rôle auprès de l'équipe nationale depuis 1999. Langelier a aussi entraîneur aux mondiaux juniors en 2005.

    L'équipe des mondiaux juniors 2007 est composée de 19 joueurs qui sont inscrits dans les catégories des 10 ans et moins aux 18 ans et moins, en simple et en double.

    Équipe Canada a terminé au troisième rang l'an dernier aux championnats du monde juniors à Phoenix, en Arizona, derrière le Mexique (champion) et les États-Unis. L'équipe de cette année cherchera à améliorer ce classement.

    Les Canadiens pourront prendre confiance du fait que deux des trois joueurs qui ont remporté deux médailles de bronze (en simple et en double) l'an dernier sont de retour cette année. Christine Richardson et Barret Husulak chercheront individuellement à grimper plus haut sur le podium en Bolivie.

    Les championnats du monde juniors de racquetball 2007 auront lieu du 14 au 20 décembre 2007 à Cochamba, en Bolivie. Cette ville a déjà accueilli les championnats du monde de racquetball en 1998 et les championnats panaméricains en 1993 et en 2002.
