Canadian Racquetball Rankings: Van Hees and Green remain #1

Christie Van Hees of Calgary and Mike Green of Burlington, Ont. continue to be the number 1 racquetball players in Canada according to the latest Racquetball Canada rankings.

This week, Van Hees, the reigning Canadian and World Champion, will be looking to defend her Canadian Open title at the Cedar Springs Health and Racquet Club in Burlington, Ont. That will be a difficult task this year, as the Canadian Open is now a full event on the Women's Professional Racquetball (WPRO) Tour. That means the best women racquetball players will be in Burlington.

However, Van Hees in the draw may be more of a concern for the other WPRO players than they are for her, as Van Hees won both of the WPRO events she played last season, including the prestigious US Open in Memphis, Tennessee.

Denise Haynes of Clare, N.S., the current Girls 18 and under Canadian Champion, cracked the top 10 for the first time, and will also be at the Canadian Open this week.

Green continues to be number 1 men's racquetball player in Canada despite his loss in the National Championship final to Kris Odegard of Saskatoon last May in Regina. Odegard has moved up to number 3 with his performances at Nationals.

They will both have a chance to prove themselves against the best men's professional racquetball players this week, as the Canadian Open is also a full International Racquetball Tour (IRT) event, so all the professional male racquetball players will be in Burlington, Ont.

Odegard will be looking to do better than the round of 16 that he reached last month at the IRT event in Kansas City.

The Canadian Open begins Thursday October 11 at the Cedar Springs Health and Racquet Club in Burlington, Ont. and runs through Sunday October 14.
