Big Upsets in Boys 18 & Under Event

Quick news from Regina: none of the top four seeds in the Boys 18 & Under division have made it to the finals. In the tradition of upsets at the Racquetball Canada Junior nationals, the #11 seed Tim Landeryou (Saskatoon) will face #5 Jeff Buller (Grande Prairie) for top honours on Sunday afternoon. Landeryou, a member of the Junior National Team, will also play for the Gold medal in the 16 & Under division, where he is expected to face tough competition from World Champion Eric Desrochers (Ancaster).

In the Boys 18 & Under doubles, there was almost another upset as Michael McLean and Eric Youngson (Winnipeg) had to fight back from a 8-2 deficit in the tiebreaker before winning the semi final tiebreaker 11-8 over the Montreal team of Charles Chouinard and Remi Parras. The Manitobans will play twin brothers Richard and David Serra (Leamington) for the gold medal on Sunday.

In the Girls divisions, Brandi Jacobson Prentice continued her winning ways in the 14 & Under and 18 & Under divisions, while team-mate Alison Schlichemeyer has dominated the 16 & Under.
