May 25, 2002 MacDonald and Odegard off to the Worlds Brossard, Quebec – Amanda MacDonald and Karina Odegard of Saskatoon have confirmed their spot as Canada’s representatives for the doubles event at this summer’s World Championships, in Puerto Rico. The pair won the doubles event of the Canadian championships, on Wednesday at Club Sani Sport, in Brossard, Quebec. Singles champion Jennifer Saunders, of Winnipeg, and finalist Josee Grand’Maitre, of Longueuil, Quebec, have also earned berths for the Worlds in the singles event. “We’re looking good, with the way we’ve played at the Tournament of the Americas in March. Jenn is ready, I’m playing good and we can play different styles, so we can trick other teams that way. In doubles, we have great chances,” said Odegard. The composition of the men’s squad for the World Championships has yet to be determined. Current doubles player Mike Ceresia of Toronto has yet to confirm his commitment to the team, which pushes singles champion Michael Green, of Hamilton, to choose between entering the singles or the doubles event. Canada’s number one player, Kane Waselenchuk, of Edmonton, was not at the Nationals with a severe injury to his playing hand, so his status is also to be determined for the Worlds in the coming days. |
