Saturday, January 19, 2002 No surprises in Brossard BROSSARD (QC) – The favorites will be on the menu of tomorrow’s finals at the 2002 National Monitoring Event of racquetball in Brossard, Quebec. Edmonton’s phenom Kane Wasenlenchuk easily cleared the hurdles all the way to the title match where he’ll face Michael Green from Toronto. The women’s match will feature perennial Canadian champion Josee Grand’Maitre and current challenger Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg. “We’re on course and ready to go,” said Wasenlenchuk today after defeating Corey Osbourne of Toronto in semi final action. The other semi final showcased Istace’s victory over Kris Odegard of Saskatoon. In the women’s title game, Jennifer Saunders will seek to win her first game against Grand’Maitre. “She’s the only Canadian player I never defeated yet, she said. I look forward to that match.” All four finalists earned spots on the Canadian roster for the Tournament of the Americas, due in March in Bolivia. This will be Saunders first experience on the international scene. “I’m very excited to be on the trip, she said. I had been dreaming this since I’m twelve.” Both Canadian doubles teams will be determined next month in a similar National Monitoring Event in Winnipeg.
