Swinging Singles in Victoria

The Racquetball National Team Selection Singles event will be from February 13-15 in Victoria, British Columbia, at the Victoria YM/YWCA.

Twelve of the top women players in Canada will be competing, including Lori Jane Powell, the current Canadian champion, who is seeded number one. Doubles partners Josée Grand'Maître and Jennifer Saunders are seeded 2 and 3 respectively. Grand'Maître and Saunders defeated Powell and Julie Neubauer at last month's doubles selection event, so this will be a chance for rematches.

There are 20 men competing with Mike Green, the current Canadian Champion and currently number 8 on the International Racquetball Tour, as the number one seed on the men's side. Green won silver at last year's Pan Am Games. Brian Istace was also on the Pan Am Games team, and he is the number two seed.

The results of this tournament will be used to select the National Team for this year's international events: the Pan American Championships in Ecuador in April, and the World Championships in South Korea in August.

The Racquetball National Championships will be May 24-29 at the Cedar Springs Racquet Club in Burlington, Ontario.
